THE CHURCH OF CHRIST.
The Churches of Christ associated for Evan gl is tic purpose are not the insignificant religious body they are generally supposed l to he. They support 7000 preachers wholly devoted to tlie work, 1000 home and foreign missionaries, many universities, colleges, and other educational institutions, and publish upwards of 30 religious weekly, monthly, and quarterly papers. They are increasing at the rate of about 100,000 converts a year, and tlieir Bible colleges cannot cope with the demand for preachers. They have great interst in foreign missions, and occupy fields in Denmark, Norway, India, China, Japan, Siam Egypt, South Africa, South Sea Islands, Jamaica. Thibet. Turkey, Cuba. Mexico. and South America. We do not state these facts in the spirit of vain glory, but simply to acquaint our readers with a people who are one on the great fundamentals of the Christian faith, while at the some time they exercise perfect freedom of thought on all matters of '-opinion and expediency. They have found that the union of Christians is not only desirable, but can only be effected on the basis laid down in the Word af the Living God,''One body and one Spirit even as ye ai'e called in one hope of your calling: one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, aud in you all.” Missions have been held at Auckland and Gore recently with very* successful results, and arrangements have betni mode for a 15-days' Evanglistic Mission in Mangahao road Chapel. Pahiatua, Mr Herbert Grinsietad being the Evangelist. The Mission commences on October 8, 1916.
