NEWMAN CHEESE FACTORS

The first annual report of the Nowman Co-operative Dairy Company (cheese) states that the factory and plant were taken over at the sur. of £1275 from the Dairy Union. Additions to the value of £2Ol 6s 7d were* added to tlu> buildings and plant, making <i total of £‘1476 6s 7d, which* is a very low value to place on the same. The maintenance lots been practically nil. The directors installed a whey separating plant, which has tinned out very satisfactorily, and is a- paying proposition. The doubts expressed when taking over the factory that the six h.p. boiler Was not large enough proved to be true. A 15 h.p. boiler has been installed, which is a decided improvement, and will mean a very big saving in fuel, file sup., pliers have received a payment of Is 5d per lb fur lmfer-fat, and a further payment will he made qf 3|d making a total payment of Is B|d per lb for the season. One-third of the cheese was sold to the Government, the balance on open consignment through the. Dank of New Zealand, with the exception of a small quantity sold locally. At the Magistrate's Court at Palmerston North, on the petition of Messrs Harvey end Cannon, Palmerston North, Even Williams, of Taka.pau, dheeso factory proprietor, was adjudged a bankrupt, Mr J. W. Poynton. as Registrar of the Supreme Court, presided and made the order asked for. A very considerable fall cf snow was experienced in Eketahuna last week.
