MAKURI PATRIOTIC BALL.
A SI*EOTACULAR AFFAIR
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Maknri schoolchildren celebrated their anniversary with a fancy dress patriotic ball on Friday evening last. The hall was prettily decorated with flags, ferns and flowers, and a large number of adults and children were present, including visitors from Fabiatua Dannevi.rke, Pongaraa and other towns. Many of the local settlers were absent this year. It was an inspiring sight to see all the children, in their many coloured fancy dresses with flags, performing their various evolutions in the Grand March. Polish dances, Sir Roger d© Coverlev, and other items. They certainly were a credit to their teacher, .Miss Mejauidress, and her assistants. Mr J. Moore prove dan efficient M.C. Mrs Murphy supplied the music in her usual good style. The supper, in charge of Mesdamos Rartkiu, Olsen and Glmrchiou.se was a distinctive feature this year, the supply of fruit salads, ■'rifles, jellies, and other dainties l>oing more than ample. An iced cake, presented by Mrs T. Biggar was auctioned and nettop the sum of four pounds Iteing knocked down to Mr Morrison, who kindly presented it to th© school children. Mr .I'. Banks, on behalf of the School Committee, thanked all those who had assisted in various ways to make the ball a success. Mr Banks, by leouest, tang a couple ot songs for the child-
ren.
