WOODVILLE.
The Executive of the Hawke’s Bay War Relief Association dealt mainly witli the queston of assisting discharged soldiers to take up land. The names of 14 returned soldiers were submitted who require assistance, and it was decided, “that the Association advance the first half-year’s rent by way of loan for a period of five years, free of interest for the first year, and Governmnt rates for the balance of the term. Security of the loan to he taken. Two members were appointed to” interview the Land Board. That the question of assistance to discharged soldiers taking up land he referred to the Advisory Board for consideratioen in order that Associations throughout New Zealand should adopt an uniform method of assisting. That the Wairoa County Council’s application for loan of -£2400 be granted. That an offer of £35.000 4\ per cent. New Zealand Debentures for -ale be referred to the Investment Committee. The- sum of £116.433 was the ; total amount held bv the Assoeia- j tion. On Sunday at the services in Holy Trinity Church. Wocdville. Canon Eeeles made feelig reference to the | loss to th district in the death of Air John Grant. Suitable hymns were sung and the Anthem “He Shall Wipe A way All Tear-..’’ was renderered by thje choir. We learn from the local recruiting office that a numlier of cards of those who have enlisted. but have not presented themselves for medical oxaminaion have been returned. Surely it cannot be that those who have offered them.selves to their country are voluntarily waiting now for compulsion.- Woodville Exam- j iuer.
