SCHOOL PICNICS.

GATHERING AT HUKANUI.

The annual picnic in connection with the Hukanui school was held last Friday in a shady spot on the baulks of the Mangatadnokiai river, between Hukanui and Hamua. The gathering was well attended, and the children had an - exceptionally enjoyable time. Races for money prizes were run during the day. The teach, ers and members of the comjmittee and their wives were very energetic in attending to the requirements of visitors. Plenty of refreshments were provided. During the afternoon merit prizes (books) were presented by the chairman of the School Committee, Mr N. Small, as follows: Bryce IJdy 2; Standard VI.: Alf Anderson 1, Roy Griffin 2; StardardV.: Dorothy Anderson; Standard IV.: William Parish 1, Hector Palmer 2: Standard III.: Dorothy Parish 1, Neil Small and Mavis Anderson 2; Standard 11. : John Parish 1, Fred. Ranger Standard I.: Victor Cooper 1, Kenneth Small 2. Sewing prizes: Ist, donated by Mr W. Parish, os; 2nd, work-box, donated by Miss Edmed, Minnie Parish 1, Doris Dearl 2. Miss Martin’s medal for best ‘girt Dorothy Anderson. Special prize, 10s 6d, donated by Mr C. W. Watts, for best work done by boy at inspector’s examination, William Parish. The usual dance was held in the Hukanui Hall in the evening. Music if or the function was supplied bv Mr and Mrs Watts. KONINI OUTING. The Konini school treat was held on Friday, and Mr H Hirst’s paddock, which is partly surrounded by to clump of napive trees, was the scene of gaiety, almost every resident of the Konini district being present, in addition to a number of visitors. There were plenty of presents for the children’s races, which were arranged by the headmaster. Mr W. Britland, while the committeemen all worked hard to assist in making the yearly function a success. The ladies’ nail-driving competition, for a trophjr presented by Mr Geo. Oxley, drew forth 29 entries, the winner being Miss L. Humphrey’s. Airs J. Prydo won the marriel ladies’ race and Miss Annie Mr.lcy defeated a good field in the young ladies’ race. 1 lie annual dance, in conjunction with the Konini school pi.cni<- was held in the Konini Hall on Fridav evening. The function was attended by a fair gathering, those present spending a very enjoyable evening. The music for the dancing was contributed by Mr R. Russell, tin Mi-ses Humphries, A Wade and G. Kelly playing ' ‘extras.’' Airs Henry Hirst rendered vocal items, and Airs W Britland pi ay erf the acoompaTitments. Refreshments in abundance were provided by the lud'es. Mr Harry Brooks made a capable Af.C.
