DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS.
INCREASED WAGES WANTED
A matter of considerable importance to dairymen and dairy companies is now under consideration — namely, a proposal to enter into an agreement concerning hew conditions, covering a period of two years. Dairy factory managers are being circulated by the New Zealand Agricultural ana Pastoral Workers’ Union. The circular points out that it is now five years since tlie Dairy Employees' t'nion met the workers over certain claims. The schedule of wages .claimed .is as follows : . Creameries : Manager £3 10s per week; butter factories, first assistant £3 os; secondassistant £3 : casuals, £2 15s; engine driver, £3. Cheese factories: First assistant, £3 ss; second assistant, £3; casuals, £2 15s; engine driver, £3 ss.
A meeting of the Bush Districts Cheese F stories' Association was held at Eketahuna on Monday to consider the demands. Mr T. Moss (Chairman) said it came as a surprise to know that there was anv dissatisfaction among the employees—none of them had noticed it. Personally, he thought the A.P W. should be informed that employers were not aware of a dispute. Still if other districts conferred, this district would necessarily have to bo represented. as there was a danger of a few making concessions. He did not favour an open conference as no good would likely accrue. The demands were considered seriatum and the (feeling of the meeting was taken on each clause. The following resolution was carried; "That Messrs Moss and Wise l>o appointed a committee to carry out the resolutions of the meeting, with power to act in connection with the demands.”
