A commendable instance of keenness to serve with the forces abroad is reported in regard to a young man formerly of Palmerston. He was in tiie Postal Department in the Wairnrnpa, and early last year was rejected as a. recruit for physical reasons, deficient. chest measurement chiefly. Believing that an outdoor occupation would remedy the shortcoming, he at once resigned his position, giving up the advantages of ten years’ service attaching thereto, and took up farm, work. The change wrought a great physical improvement, and eight months later he was able to pass the medical officer with a lot to spare. He went into camp amongst the 12th Reinforcements last week, secure in the knowledge that he at least had not failed when his country called.
