Lieut. Berg has asked the United States to consider the liner Appam afair war prize . A ckoe guard is being maintained and it is impossible to obtain the real facts as to the capture of the vessel.
The British Consul at New York now announces that no submarine accompanied the Appam.
The whereabouts of the Moewe is not discoverable. It is believed there was half a million sterling of South African bullion aboard the Appam.
RETURN OF SHIP DEMANDED

Sir Cecil Spring Rice the British Ambassador, has, formally demanded the return of the Appam to her British owners under article twenty-one of the Hague Convention It is probable the case will be referred to the United States Supreme Court. It. is understood the Moewe escaped through the Kiel Canal in order to raid British shipping. FINED FOR EXPORTING. (Received this day at 8.50 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. Fines totalling £270 each have hern inflicted on Charles Lowe and Frederick Newman for exporting coal from Newcastle without the necessary j>ermission

A demonstration of soldiers took place at a. restaurant in George street, the men resenting demands for payment before they were served in viw of what are popularly known a - “kitchen feeds.” The windows wore sum,shed and seven arrests followed.

The Turkish heir Apparent. Prince Yusauf. committed suicide owing to illness, cutting the arteries. The deed was performed at the Palace.
