ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED.
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
A crowded congregation assembled at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening, when the Rev. M. Batvde*i Harris preached an impressive sermon on I Kings 20c. 11 v. -‘Let not him that putteth on bis armour boast as he putteth it off. - ’ The preacher showed tlie spirit of boasting belonged to youth, and the need there was for curbing this spirit. The war-worn soldier did not boast, but realised the greatness of the struggle; and the need for watchfulness. We need to recognise the strength of the enemy, whose forces may he greater than our own. Life is a warfare, and every man is a soldier whether he recognis;-* es it or no, therefore, he need to by oil the alert, to subdue all passions likely to gain the mastery. The preacher urged them to yield themselves- to tlie influence ot Christ, who would give them strength for overcoming. and this would exclude the boastful spirit. After the sermon, the- donor of the Honour Poll was asked to unveil it the Roll being covered with the Union Jack. A cord was unloosed, and the flag (fell away disclosing a framed roll very neatly, done in black and <r o ld (the work of Master Robert McCaw, a son of the former minister here The 8011, which is surrounded bv an oaken frame, the gift of Mi A*. Harris crave an address appreciative of the men. who had volunteered for the front and specially mentioning Lieut Cowan and 1 rivate Rose, who died on active service, end mentioned that -everal others had been wounded in battle Tlie service was concluded bv the siliconof Lead Kindly Light." and ti e'National Anthem. ( aptain Herbert was present, and " it*i Jiim were a mim!>er of TerritoriaL and Cadets. At ell known hvmns were sung during the service.
