PAHIATUA COMPETITIONS.

INTERESTING PROGRAMME

A meeting of the committee of the Pahiatua Competitions Society was held last evening, when final arrangements were made for the festival, which commences to-morrow morning at 9 o’clock with the children's spelling, sight-reading and literary classes. The afternoon will be devoted to practically all the children’s elocutionary section. For the evening a splendid programme has been arranged, consisting of all the children’s finals, including the open humorous recitation (own selection), and the open patriotic recitation (Mr Evans’ special prize), own selection. In lx>th of these classes there are sonic very clever juvenile performers. In addition to these classes there is the ever popular story without words, and the two bright and sparkling comediettas, by two local amateur combinations. The first one to lie played is a screamingly funny sketch entitled “The Soldier’s Return,” to be followed by a very clever comedy, "An Amiable Trio.” The members of each company include a number of well-known townsfolk. and it is said that- several of them are developing histrionic art of no mean order. In anticipation of the crowded house arrangements are being made for additional seating accommodation, so those who are desirous of securing seat should put in an early appearance. As the programme is a very lengthy one the entertainment will commence sharp at 7.30 p.m. Programmes of the festival, containing the time-table of the vari-

oils sessions, the order and number of tlie competitions and other interesting information, are now available, and may l>e obtained from the secretary (Mr J. A. Walsh).
