The Government Life Insurance Department’s annual report states that although the market price for Government and other securities has natu_ rally fallen owing to the war the partment has been able to write down its securities to the lowest quotation, and at the same time maintain the high level.of bonuses allotted on previous occasions. The policies vahied numbered 52,273 and the sums assured amount to £13,797,075. The surplus after adding £75.458 to investment for fluctuation reserve amounted to £222,065. The individual bonuses range from 21s to 33s per cent, on original sum assured according to amount of previous bonuses, the total of re visionary bonuses so allotted amounting to £238.760. The funds of the Department on Doeemlior 31sti were £5.033,883 in addition to £189.121 set aside to meet possible depreciation in assets.
