A battle is imminent at Nanking, where General Chang’s troops are committing excesses. Every queueless Chinese is being decapitated. Over 150 have been killed, including women and children. He refused, on the ground of his loyalty the Emperor, and he expressed his determination to re-take Shanghai, Ciiinkiang, and Eoochau. General Chang has plenty of money and ammunition.

Twenty thousand followers of the rabble have sacked the Government buildings. Foreigners have quitted the city.

Lu Yuan Heng, in replying to Chang’s request to cease hostilities, declared that he would overthrow tne Government, as the only conclusion was that there was no guarantee that the Government promises would be fulfilled.

Pekin, Last Night. Yuan Shili Kai will form a Ministry to carry on the Government, with the support of many of the provinces, possibly allowing the remainder to retain independence for the time being. ” An endeavour will be made to gradually win tlieir allegiance to the Throne.

The Chi-Kli Assembly has resolved, to memorialise the Throne in favour of a Republic, with Yuan Shili Kai as President.
