COMMANDEERING OF SCHOOLS
AN INTERESTING DEVELOP MEXT.
Electric Telegraph—Press Association Feilding, This Day.
The AA'anganui Education Board's objection to the use of so many schools for polling booths has reached another stage. The Chief Electoral Officer states that 110 schools and 100 teachers in the AYanganui Education district are required for the elections. Of these, 40 schools and 25 teachers are required in Oroua electorate alone, where there are only five other plaAes engaged as polling booths. Air Alansfield insists on the use of schools and the Board's chairman is prepared to resist any attempt to use schools where other buildings are available and specifies 15 places in the Oroua electorate where, to his personal knowledge, such is the case. He also points out that no teachers’ services are available without the consent of, the Board, which is not likely to be given where schools can he kept open, even in temporary buildings. The probabilities point to interesting developments unless a compromise can be arranged.
