ATTEMPT TO DESTROY A HOTEL. SUPPOSED SUICIDE OF SUSPECTED PERSON. Electric telegraph Press Association Wanganui, March 2. An attempt to destroy the Upokongaro Hotel was made last night, gelignite being exploded on the roadway in front. Every window was smashed, but otherwise no damage was done. The explosion was heard a mile away. The police are investigate nig the matter. T . Later. in connection with the explosion at the Upokongaro Hotel, the police suspect that the outrage was committed by a Mexican named Laurent, who is supposed to have committed sui. ide in the river, his coat and vest being found near the ferry boat on the river bank opposite the hotel. The police are now dragging for the body.
