The second innings of the Australians was opened by Trumper and Bardsley. The former w'as dismissed after getting four runs, but Bardsley kept his end up, and when he was joined by Armstrong the runs came merrily. The pitch was faster in the Australians’ second innings. Trumper sent up .a skyer, and Newman running from the slips took a good catch. One for 17. When seven more had been added Noble played Newman on. Tlie fielding was smart. The Bards-ley-Armstrong partnership lasted 65 minutes, and carried the total to 101 before the third wicket fell. The century took just 100 minutes to compile. Bardsley gave a sound, skilful and admirable exhibition. The batsman was assisted by the uneven bowling. The fourth wicket went fo ! r 139, Llewellyn snapping up Armstrong at mid-off. He batted for 95 minutes, and gave a splendid display. He made a sixer, and nine fourers. Gregory and Alacalister added the balance of the runs. Gregory was missed in the slips w hen he had made 12.
