LABOURERS' WAGES.
THE CANTERBURY AWARD. Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Alay 3. The agreement arrived at in the General Labourers' dispute lias been tiled. A memorandum to the award states that it deals specifically with building trade labourers. It was intended to apply also to workers employed by local bodies' contractors and quarry owners, and to workers employed by other emplovens when doing work similar to that done by local bodies' contractors and quarry owners. The conditions will not apply to any work done in the ordinary course of farm work. Tlie Christchurch Drainage Board is exempt from the operations ot the award, as far as its permanent staff is concerned, and as long as it is working under present conditions. A similar condition applies to the ’liina.ru Borough Council. The agreement i- to commence from June 4th, anil remain in forte for three years. It will apply to the whole ol the Canterbury industrial District.
In tunnel works the minimum wage of tunnel men and timber men is Is 3d per hour. Quarries: Quarrymon, hammer and drill men, crusher men, spawlers, platelayers, asphalt miners. Is Id per hour. General labourers, Is per lionr. Building works: Alen in charge of derricks, all scaffdlders. men in attendance on bricklayers. Is lid per hour. (11l relerence to TiniHiu tin' winds, “men in attendance on hrieklavers" are deleted, and “hod carriers” inserted.) General labourers will receive not less than Is per bou r. Overtime is to be paid at the rate of time ami a quarter for the first four hours and time and a half afterwards, and for work on New Year’s Day, Easter Alonday, Labour Day. ShowDay and Boxing Day. Double time is to he paid for work done on Christmas Day, Good Friday, or on Sundays.
