A bundle of clothing belonging to some workmen who are boarders at the hotel was taken Irotn the changing iroom, placed on the landing of the outside stairway, and fired. Fortunately a hoarder returning from an i nteirtainment at a distant township came in nhout 4 o'clock, noticed the lire, and extinguished it. Hail the fire got a bold ill tin- passage it would have cut off all escape and ninny lives would have been endangered. A man giving the name of W. Ma.loon has been arrested iin connection with the affair, lor which no tangible reason can even be guessed at.
