The Timn.ru Herald gives a hint to farmers who object to selling their heaviest limbs to the freezing companies for less money than lighter ones realise. According to that paper a well-known farmer sent a line of fine big lambs to Burnside recently. He found that big lambs were worth more than 12s 6d, so lie put them into the fat sheep pens, and sold them as wethers at 17s Gd. The butchers, of course, did not mind the weight, and gave value for it. The fisrt Lord Leicester (Coke, of Holkham) having heard that ducks had proved useful in a garden to eat “black canker,” resolved to try wliat ducks could do on a larger scale when a 33 acre field of turnips was attacked. He ordered his bailiff to buy all the ducks lie could got, and, having collected 400 birds, turned them into the turnip field, in one corner of which there was a pool. In five days the ducks cleared the turnips most completely, “ marching at last through the field on the hunt, eyeing the leaves on both sides with great care, to devour every one they could see, and filling their crops several times a day.” The ducks, having saved about £GO worth of turnips were sent to the poultry yard. In their report on the International Tuberculosis Congress, the British delegates present an interesting account of the amazing energy with which the United States are fighting the plague of consumption, alike by educative and administrative methods. With an army of lecturers continually discussing tlm disease and its treatment, it is practically impossible for patients and their friends to remain in that ignorance which is all too common in regard to it among ourselves. Night camps, organised for the accommodation of sufferers who seek a cure without abandoning their work, offer perhaps the only solution which combines adequate .supervision with financial practicability. Notification is the neeesary basis of an effective system. If the dbetors' enn be warned of it.s abuse, it muy lie of the greatest benefit in a phthisis-ridden world.
