SOCIAL GATHERING AT MANGATAINOKA.
One of the most enjoyable gatherings held in Mangatainoka for some time past was that which took place in the Library Hall last night. There was a large attendance, so much so that locomotion at times was difficult while dancing was in progress, and the seating accommodation was taxed to its utmost capacity. The Rev. Mr Compton, vicar, superintendded operations, and acquitted himself admirably, every item being got off with precision. The programme, which was much appreciated, was as follows:—r la noforte duet, “Ocean W aves, Mrs Rombach and Miss Barrell; song, “Good-bye, Mavourneen,” Mrs Rombach; gramaphone selection, Mr Hill; sonf, “Out on the Deep,” Mr Bray; song. “The Garonne,” Airs Osburne-Lilly ; flute solo, “Killarney. ’ Mr Montgomery; song, “Goodbye Miss Mexted; pianoforte solo, “Carnival of Venice,” Airs Bayliss; song, “Across the Blue Sea,” Rev. A. AV. H. Compton; recitation, “The Game of Life,” Mr Petherick (encored); gramaphone selection. Air Hill. Accompaniments were played by the Alisses Barrell, de Grut and Sicely. and the dance music by Messrs Sharp (violin) and T. Dray (piano), “extras” being played by Alisses Barrell, Alexted and Nestor. During a break in the proceedings the Rev. Air Compton thanked those present for their attendance and appreciation of the items given : the performers for their valuable assistance in contributing to the success of the entertainment, and the Ladies’ Guild, under whose auspices the social was held. Refreshments were then banded round, and done full justice to. Dancing was kept up spiritedly until an early hour this morning.
