The Horopito township lots were sold at auction, to-day, by the Hon. Kennedy Macdonald, in conjunction with Mr T. Mandeno Jackson. The prices ranged from £2O to £155, according to size and position. Auckland, July 24.
The .quarterly statistics of the schools in the Auckland district show that there are 476 schools (including SO half-time schools) with 33,527 scholars, 17,65 b hoys, and 15,869 girls, taught by 938 teachers. The following are the increases over the previous quarter:—Schools 5, teachers 3, scholars 205. The average daily attendance has decreased by 280, largely due to measles. Wellington, July 24. The inter-provincial hockey match, Wellington v. Otago, was played at Day’s Bay to-day, in fine weather. The game was won by Wellington by three goals to two. Gower and Murphy scored for the visitors.
