ARBITRATION COURT.
Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 18. The Arbitration Court to-day heard applications tor enforcement of awards. Baker and Co., under the tanners’ award, was fined £3 and costs for paying less than Is an hour to employees under the age of twentyone years. Moore Bros, were charged with not paying their men overtime on a contract. The case was dismissed, and the Labourers’ Union had to pay two guineas costs. <J. Page was fined under the coachbuilders’ an arc! £5 for failing to indenture an apprentice. This afternoon proceedings were taken by the Inspector of Awards against the Christchurch Press Company. the Lyttelton Times Company, and Whitcomhe and Tombs, Ltd., to obtain enforcement of an industrial award and agreement, which were alleged to provide that employees in the printing trade in Christchurch should be paid f.or certain holidays. Evidence was called to show that holidays had never before been paid for by master printers in Christchurch. Counsel for the respondents stated that if the application was granted it would mean a difference to the three firms of about £ISOO a year, and if hack pay were awarded it would amount to between £7OOO and £BOOO.
