ALLEGED INDECENT ASSAULT. William Beaufort and George Little, two youths, were charged with having on the 21st September unlawfully and indecently assaulted a young girl named Elizabeth Emily Greaves, a domestic servant. The following jury was empannelJed:—Messrs A. J. H. Rosenberg, L. Grant. J. Rombach O. Sommer vile. J. EHemers. A. L. Moore. W. L Husband, A. Gilbert, A. F f indorp b, T. Cross. A. H. Dillon and J. D. Wilson. Mr Rosenberg was chosen foreman. Mr W Toss will. Crown Prosecutor, conducted the case for the Crown, while Mr J. Osburne-Lillv acted tor Little and Mr Wyvern Wilson represeuted Beaufort. The evidence in this case was substantially the same as that recorded in the Magistrate’s Court. The following witnesses gave evidence on behalf of the prosecution . Elizabeth Emilv Greaves, Charles D. Bauckham. William Crerar, Daniel Igo and Lyall de Rienzi. Messrs J. Osborne-Lilly and Wyvern Wilson, counsel for accused, made a strong appeal to the jury for leniency on account of the youth of the of-

fenders. The jury, after a short retirement, brought i'll a verdict of guilty of common assault against both accused. His Honour sentenced both prisoners to six weeks’ imprisonment in Wellington gaol. Instructions are to be given to the gaoler that both prisoner- be kept separate and anart from other prisoners in the gaol. His Honour trusted the sentence meted out to the accused would be a lesson, not only to the prisoners, but to other youth,, who were m the habit ot molesting people. WOODVILLE ASSAULT CASE. In the case against Alexander Campbell tor a-sault against John Folley the jury brought in a verdict ot guilty of common assault. His Honour stated la did not wish to have the accused sent to prison, hut at the same he could not let him go scot-free. He would be admitted to six months probation, conditionally on payment of to forthwith, and £2 a month for two months, and then tl, such moneys to go ton aids the expenses ot trie prosecut ion. The Court then rose.
