THE FORT BALLANCE FATALITY.
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington. November 7. The inquest was resumed at Wellington on Saturday regarding tha death of Gunner J. A. Palmer, of the Permanent Artillery, killed cn Wednesday last through tbe explosion of a 12-inch quick-firing gun at Fort Ballance. The evidence of the injured members of tbe gun detachment taken at the hospital was to the effect that all the regulations had been complied with, and all proper precautions tak*. n iu firing the gun. They were quite unable to account for the accident. The inquest was further adjourned until Thursday next to enable the jury to inspect a model of the guo. The body of Gunner Palm.r was buried ou Saturday at Karri with full military honours. An otlicial inquiry is to be held this week by tho Defence Department.
