There are 91 dairy factories and 71 skimming stations scattered ever tbe Taranaki province. Out of 10,000 cows dehorned in Taranaki, not one death was recorded through the operation. Six thousand of the animals were dehorned by one man.

The Wairarapa Bacon and Freezing Company has been unable to pay a dividend on tbe past year’s transactions, but is making headway towards profitable bnslness. Mr J. E. Pearsou, in bis article in the “Illustrated Dairy,” says of grading : “ It is safe to say that this system brings to the New Zealand farmer £BO,OOO to £40,000 per annum above wbat he would otherwise receive tor bis butter and cheese.”

The Mangatoki Dairy Company has soli its season’s output, or the greater portion of it to Messrs Nathan and Co. The price is not disclosed, but we understand it is within a fraction ol that t-ecured by tbe Eltbam Company. The Mangatoki factory paid out on Friday 9J per lb for butterfat for September. This, we believe, is the best price paid in Taranaki so far this season.—Eltbam “ Argus."

An official connected with the Denmark milk industry, Herr Heglland, ha 3 discovered that a cow can be made to yield double tbe quantity of milk if milked eight instead of the orthodox three times a day. Tbe great development of the dairy export industry in New Zealand may be gauged by the fact that the value of cheese and butter exported during the year ended March 31st last was over 84 times as great as during 1888. The increase in the export trade has been very rapid from year to year, the most remarkable advance being shown in 1899-1900, when the export jumped to £901,059 from £580,478 in the previous year. A Patea dairy farmer who milked twenty five (*>ws last y ar finds that this season he is only getting half as much milk though his herd is only five less.
