A TIME-HONOURED CUSTOM.
Our office was besieged with juveniles this morning with all sorts of effigies of the time-honoured Guy Fawkes —one effigy masquerading in the character with military cap and uniform of the twentieth century. The burden of the boys’ song was as follows: Please to remember the fiith of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot, I Lave no reason why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot. A stick and a stake for KiDg Edward's sake, Halloa, boys, halloa toys, God 3ave the King ! The juveniles reported that they had done good business, their persistent demands for “ somethmg for Guy ” generally meeting with a response, even if only ia the shape of a penny. One gentleman felt annoyed at being roused cut of bed at an early hour, clad in the chilly garments of eight, by a noise outside bis bedroom window. He tried to remain deaf to the appeals made to him, but the juveniles were obdurate, however, and succieding in procuring “the needful,’’ they went on their way rejoicing.
