“GOOD ELL, GOOD ELL!"
Even the placid Mr Ell is sometimes a victim. He was propounding some brilliant philosophy in the early hours of the morning at a recent allnight sitting, when Mr Parata suddenly awoke, and being seized by the excellence of Mr Ell s sentiment, interpolated sleepily, jf Good Ell, good Ell.” The speaker at once stopped, and indignantly moved that the words be taken down, adding that he was not going to be insulted in the Chamber, and that he insisted on the protection of the chair. “ But,” protested the Chairman, “ I beard no insult.” “ Why, sir," proclaimed Christchurch's representative. “ the honourable member distinctly told me to go to hell !” The roar of laughter which followed woke up the amiable Parata, who bad again fallen asleep, in time to gracefully accept Mr Ell’s apology.
