Terrible Explosion at Detroit.
A torrible accidont, accompanied l y considerable loss of lift, coturred at Detroit recently. About twonty minutes past nine in tho morning the city and neighbourhood was startled by a terrific exp’otioii, which t iok place in the Pemberthy injector factory. The factory is composed of two buildings, and the cause of tho explosion was the bursting of a boiler, winch eomplotoly demolished ono of the buildings, although tho other escaped any damage. About 150 persons are employed in the fictory, and as a serious fire followed tho ekplosiou in the wrecked building it was at first reported that fifty persons had perished and many others been injured. Later reports, liowevor, show that, though tho occurrence is most serious tho loss of
life is not so groat ns first supposed. Tho lire was quickly subdued, anil twonty-fivo bodies hnvo been recovered. Thirty - eight persons Suffering from various injuries have boon rescued, while several persons are known to he missing, and thorn is little doubt they hnvo either been killed in tho explosion or have perched in the fire. The detonation of tho explosion wn:i so terrific that it was hoard for many miles around. Only about twenty persons of those working in tho demolished budding uacapcd uninjured.
