♦ (Before Mr. James, S,-J l TUESDAY, Oct. 9. A young man named Quinlan was | charged with attempted rape on a girl named Elizabeth Wagner at Mangatainoka on the 9th Sept., : 1900. Conatable Cowden, on behalf of the police, applied for a remand for eight days. Mr Smith stated that on behalf of Mr Macloskey (accused’s solicitor, who was indisposed i he did not object to the remand; but would ask for bail. 11.3 Worship said he would remand the case for eight days and allow i bail, accused in £IOO and two [ sureties of £SO each. Judgment for plaintiffs went j by default in the following cases : Moncrieff (Smith) v. Beaufort, £7 j 10s Hd, costs 17b; Medhurat t. i Collett, £8 7s Gd, costs 11s ; Stewart Iv. Collett, £8 5s 6d, costs 11s; Parkes v. W. McPhail, £2 11s. costs 7s; Parkes v. Halmoud, £1 11s, costs ss. Thompson v. Woolf, claim £lO 11s 4d, balance in dispute on a wages account. After evidence had beeu taken His Worship gave judgment for the defendant, and allowed costs. T. H. Hambrook (Mr Smith) v. John James Mr Mauisty claim £B92s6d for damage alleged to have been caused by defendant not cutting oats into chaff according to contract. The point upon which the case hinged was one as to the variation of contract, which was clearly established and judgment given accordingly for the defendant with costs £5 is. D. Harris v. A. H. G. Cooper, claim £4 for the destruction of a boar. Judgment for plaiutiff with costs £3 17s Gd. The case John Green v. Hansen, a claim of £l7 11s 3d for half cost of a dividing fence, was adjourned to 13tli November. The ease H. E. V. Crawford v. J. J. Patterson and Ingley, claim £2O 8s was adjourned to next Tuesday at 2 o’clock. The Court then rose.
