l)y Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Pkk Press Association. Received 9.15 a.m. to-day. Shanghai, December 80. it is stated that tbe French have occupied the isl&nfl of Hainan, off the coast of China. It is reported that the owners of the Empress line of steamships running between Vancouver, China, and Japin, have received a requisition from the. British Admiralty authorities, desiring their steamships to be kept in readiness for an emergNJ' Received December 81, at 9.15 a.m. Ottawa, Dec. 80. The Canadian - Pacific railway authorities say tin y are not aware of the reported requisition that their Empress line of steumers should lie kept in readiness in case of an emergency.
