- Per Press Association. Wellington Weather. Wellington, This Day. Tbe weather is dull and overcast, but no wind, and threatens to turn to heat. Sudden Death. Christchurch, This Day. Mrs T. S. Foster, lady principal of the Christchurch G iris’ High School, and wife of the headmaster of the Christchurch West District School, died suddenly at Itangiorn, where she was visiting her husband’s relations. Heart disease is supposed to be the cause of death, Mr Foster is away on a cycling tour to the West Coast. Vice-Regal Movements. Dunedin, This Day. Viscount Hampden, Governor of New South Wales and party remain here till Monday, whon a start will bo made for Lake Wakatipn, and they will leave the Bluff by the Talune on lltli January. In the course of conversation Governor Hampden said he believed if better accommodation were provided and reasonable charges made thousands of tourists would be tempted to visit the thermal springs district of the North Island. Innkeepers complained that with present charges they could not make ends meet. Failing licensing bouses in the King Country, he thinks it would be desirable to encourage lourist trattio and that the Government should either subsidise inn keepers or else themselves “run” accommodation houses. Destructive Fire at Foxton Wellington, This Day. A large shed near Foxton containing nearly TOO bales tlax, Ims been burned down. The tlax was ready for shipment to Wellington for the llarossa, one of the Freight Deduction Committee's vessels. The llax, which was the property of A. S. Patterson and Co., was insured in two local offices. Obituary. Wellington, This Day. Obituary—D. Speedy, Chairman Hutt County Council, and an old settler in the district. Bush Fires at Nelson. Nelson, This Day. Bush fires have been raging at Takaka Valley for a week past. Messrs Raigent Bros.’ sawmill at Upper Takaka were burned on Wednesday. Very little was saved and tin re wa3 no insurance. The weather is still dry and there is no sign of rain.
