Bethnal Green, Mrs Jams and nine children, whose ages ranged from JC years to eight months, were burned to death. The unfortunate victims earned a living by making matches. Most of them were suffocated in their sleep.

A curious coincidence was that tbe fa'lier died from consumption in the hospital on the day that the family perished.
