Court Pahiatua, A.0.F., meets tonight. Messrs Abraham and Williams insert list of stock for the Palmerston sale on Thursday next. Mr G. Rail, Maiigatainoka, advertises for lost pair boots, saddle straps, etc. Messrs Abraham and Williams publish to-day a list of horses for sale next Saturday at Palmerston North, unreserved. Tho public are notified that the bridge on the Main Road south, near Prebble’s, is unsafe for loads of over one ton. The Pahiatua County Council add contract f>o2 to the list already published for which tenders are invited. The Woodvillo band on Saturday, in uniform under bandmaster .Lawrence, treated the public to some splendid music. Tljo train provided by the Public Works Department, which started from Mangatuinoka on Saturday for Woodville, was well laden with workers and their friends. The excursion train on returning from Woodvillo bolted by some unaccountablo means before coining to the NK awa P unm bridge and croasod the bridgo at. tho rate of JO miles an hour. This was a good test for tho bridge, hut gave tho excursionists an unpleasant scare. Tho main road between Pahiatua and the Ngawnpuruu bridge is in a fearfully rough state. Tho large numbers of sheep that have travelled upon it during tho past week or two have laid bare the rocks. Roadmen are now breaking the large stones, and taken a.together tho road for bicycles and vehicles is most unpleasant. During tho crush at tho Woodvillo station on Saturday, piel* pockets were very much alive. One old gentleman felt liis purse leave him, and pounced upon the man next to him and called for the police. The man was taken into the station and searched, but the old gentleman had made a blunder. The thief had got. clean a\y iv. Rather rough on tho man who was searched though. Fountain Square in Woodvillo is a beautiful little spot. There is really no reason why a similar spot should not bo | prepared in Pahiatua. The altogether | lifeless policy adopted by our public men | aud t Ije corresponding upathy of the local public generally precludes the possibility 1 of over having a pleasant green spot in I the middle of our town, where the public could moot on special occasions. The travelling public \yill lined to take special note of the fact that the Ngawa puma bridge will be closed twenty minutes before the passing of any train over the bridge. This stoppage will of courao be very irksome to travellers until they become familiar with it, but tho safety of tho travelling public must be the first considunition.

The nominations lor tho amalgamated sports on Roxing Day, conducted by Court. Pahiatua, A.0.F., and tho Knights of Labor, have established a record over (my previous year. We thank the Wot d ville demonstration committee very much for its courtesy to our representative on Saturday. In this connection it is not out of place to remark that the press on Saturday received more attention than is usually bestowed on its representative at public gatherings. On the fourth page will be found an account of the uicussion on church rallies, which took place at the recent sitting of the Anglican Synod in Wellington. The discussion is well worth reading, as it shows tho attitude of the majority of tho Anglican clergy and adherantß in relation to tho vice of gambling. Mr S. Webb, practical tailor and outfitter, Main-street, has just opened up a splendid assortment of tweeds and coatings suitable for the season. Splendid lit, the best work and reasonable prices are some of the many watchwords used by Mr Webb. Those in need of an Xmas suit would do well to call and inspect Mr Webb’s stock. His replace advertisement will appear next issue. Mackinlay and Co. are showing a very large stock of Japanese ware of almost every description, aud invite the public to inspect the goods. Prices ridiculously low.*
