WOOL SALES. Messrs Wenley and Lanauze, Napier, report under date Wednesday, December 7: — The first of this season’s local wool sales was to-day held in Mr Hoadley’s auction rooms when the five firms of selling brokers submitted catalogues as follow :—N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., 1,228 bales ; Dalgety and Co. Ltd., 921 bales; Hawke’s Bay Farmer’s Co operative Association Ltd 755 bales ; Williams and Kettle Ltd., 1,884 hales; Wenley and Lanauze, 1,670 bales total 6,408 bales. The Home buyers, who have in past years attended the sale and all the local buyers were present. As compared with the oponing sale of last year, prices for ail wools are 10 per oent lower on the average with a very irregular market. Faulty and wastey wools are lnud to quit even at this decline. A few choice parcels of very superior fleece were well competed for, one lot in Messrs Williams and Kettle’s catalogue reaching B£d, being the top prico of the day. In comparison with lleeeo wool, inferior pieces and all locks sold well. We quote as follows :—Very superior light crossbreds, 7Ad to Hi-l ; medium crossbreds, 6Ad to7Ad ; coarse crossbreds, 6d to 6d ; dingy and stained floeoe, 5Ad to 6Jd ; crossbred pieces, to ssd ; belly pieces, B£d to 4sd ; locks, 2d to 3d.
