" he House met at 2.30. The Ministers, in reply to questions, stated that the Public Works Statement would probably be brought down on Tuesday next; that as Baratonga possessed selfgovernment, neither Parliament or the Government of New Zealand could interferfere in any disputes that might arise ; that a comprehensive measure providing compensation for stock destroyed by stock inspectors would be introduced early next session ; that the mail service proposals would be discussed cn Monday, The second reading cf the Consolidated Stock Act Amendment Bill and the Fisheries Encouragement Act Amendment BUT were agreed to. The House adjurned ai 5. The House resumed at 7.30. Tbe Consolidated Stock Act Amendment Bill was committed and passed without amendment after discussion, and subsequently passed its final stages. Tho Fisheries Encouragement Act Amendment Bill was committed. Tbe new clause providing for subsidies for deep sea trawling occasioned mooli discussion, a.id was ultimately withdrawn. The Bill eventually passed its final stages. The second reading of tbe Members of the House of Bepresentatives Disqualification Bill and Victorian College Bill were agreed to, but the bills were committed. Tbe former passed unamended, and tbe latter with amendments. Both billi passed their final stages and the House adjourned at 4 a.m. Legislative Council. The Council met at 2.30. The Minister of Education moved the second reading of tbe Old Age Pensions Bill. Messrs Bonar. McCullough, Bigg and Ormond spoke, and the debate was adjourned on the motion of Mr Jennings.
The Council adjourned at 5 p.m.
