In tho Legislative Assembly the Land and Income Tax Validating Bill, which, in consequence of amendments, the Government decided to reintroduce in practically its original form, passed all its stages. Sir G. Reid, in the course of tho debate, said he did not admit the right of the Council to usurp political functions which did not belong to it, but the time wa3 not ripe for a battle. The very first question submitted to the electors at tho coming elections will bo tlio whole question relative to the powers of the two houses. It is intended to provide means by which the people shall have a direct voice in the disputes between tho two houses. Replying to the attacks on the Alien Emrnigration Rill, Mr Reid said it it did not prove sufficient he would stop short at nothing to put an end to this undesirable immigration.
