THE NATIVE TROUBLE.
By Telegraph—Per Press Association.
Hawera, This Day.
The native trouble, hitherto confined to North Taranaki, has now reached this district. Early in the week European settlers’ cattle, taken into graze by natives owning the sway of Tohu, were driven off by Te Whiti natives, but Inspector McGovern apparently settled the matter yesterday. To-day the natives have started ploughing on the Public Trustee lease (Brett’s estate), Hastings road, Okiawa. The police have gone out. Later. Later news is that the native ploughing is not on the Public Trustee leasehold, but on a freehold section of Mr Cundy’s.
