OPEN COLUMN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Please allow me to intrude a little on your valuable space to ask you if there is any inspector of weights and measures for Pahiatua ? If so, who is that officer ? I see by reference to the Act of 1888 that every local authority may appoint one or more officers of police, or any other person or persons, to be an inspector or inspectors for the purposes of this Act, and every such inspector shall, within the district in or over which such local authority has jurisdiction: have and may exercise all the powers and authorities by the said Act. If any such officer as aforementioned exists I purpose asking you to publish a few sections of the Act of 1895 for his perusal, and also for the benefit of your readers.— I am, Ac.,

J. A. Lyttle. [We believe the local constable is the Inspector of Weights and Measures here.—Ed. Herald.

THE BUSH RUGBY UNION. TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Does the scandal referred to in the concluding paragraph of Mr Lewis' effusion refer to the circumstances which led to his resignation as secretary of the Bush Union '? If so, I fully agree with him in not wishing for a repetition of so much misplaced z;al.—l am. Ac.,

O. Moncktsn, Woodville delegate. [Yes; Mr Lewie was so disgusted at the manner in which Messrs

Monckton and lnglis (Woodville delegates i, in conjunction with other club-biased delegates, were dragging tho affairs of the Union through tho mud that he had no other course open to him than that of resignation. We consider the action taken by Mr Lewis was justified. Ho refused to remain in association with men whose conduct he considered tho reverse of honorable.—Ed. Herald] .
