Per Press Association. Dunedin, This Day. The drought in Central Otago appears to have broken up, rain having fallen yesterday and to-day in portions of tho district where little or no rain has fallen for nearly 12 months.

Wellington, This Day. A deputation from the Associated Solicitors' Society was introduced to the Minister of Justice this morning by Mr (ieo. Hutchison, and requested the Minister to reintroduce the Law Practitioners Act Amendment Bill, providing that solicitors after five years’ practice shall be entitled to ho enrolled as barristers. Mr Thompson said the Department had communicated with the Law Society respecting the measure, hut no reply had been received, hut tlio Society would be asked to reply. It was pointed out that the I,aw Society laid practically shelved the Department’s letter by referring the subject to a committee, winch Imd not reported for months. Tho Minister said that it would not he too late for the introduction of the hill.

The Brunner compensation cases began in the Snpreine Court this morning before the Chief Justico, without a jury. They are 22 in number and all are taken as ono. ’Three counsels appear for plaintiffs and two for the defence.
