In the Sydney suburb of Canter bury last week a woman was found carrying the dead body of a child aged two or three years. The woman was in an exhausted and excited condition, and appeared to have been wandering for some time. She was without a hat, skirt or petticoat, and the night was very cold. She had evidently been out all night, and was half dead from exposure. Afterwards it was ascertained that the woman’s name was Mrs Tanner, and that she left home the previous evening with her child Helen, then in good health. As she did not return, the police were communicated with. It is surmised that the woman was seized with a sudden fit of insanity. The child had evidently succumbed to exposure. Mrs Tanner, who is about to be con fined, was removed to the benevolent asylum.
