Mr W. N. Miller has withdrawn from the Pahiatua county election for the Makuri Riding. Attention is called to C. Sandford and Co.’s great sale of remnants in all classes of general drapery now in progress. The Wesleyan Mothodist Church intend holding a variety fair on the 15th September in the Town Hall, Pahiatua. The Farmers’ Association insert their list of stock for the next Pahiatua sale on Friday, September 3rd. Tenders for felling 50 acres of bush aro wanted. See advt. in to-day’s issue.

An advertiser has for sale secondhand Snider carbines ; price, 2ls. See advertisement.

Messrs Mowlem and Co. insert list of goods for next Saturday’s sale at the mart, and also list to be offered at tho horse sale on the same day. Mr 11. Monteith inserts list of stock for his Woodville sale on Friday, 27th instant. The list comprises a lot of young stock and 27 dairy cows. The arrangements for the dance on Thursday night should ensure a crowded attendance. Floor like glass, music divine and refreshments yum yum. On the fourth page of to-day’s issue, will be found the Te \ro House advertisement, dealing with prices of goods which the firm describe as being the greatest bargains yet offered in Pahiatua. A children’s servico will be conducted in the Pahiatua Anglican Church on Sunday afternoon next at *2.45 p.m. by the Rev. 11. M. B. Marshall.

A meeting of the Anglican paaishioners will be held in the church to-morrow at 8 o’clock to authorise the building of the parsonage in Pahiatua. A good attendance is desired.

On the fourth page of to-day’s issue will be found an article on the Klondyke golu fever, .Messrs Abralmm and William’s commercial report, and other matter.

Messrs Mowlem and Co. insert advertisement of stock, otc., in connection with Mr J. Gower’s clearing sale of dairy stock. The sale takes place on on his farm at Mangatainokn on Friday, 27th instant 1.30 p.m. Full particulars in advertisement.

A committee meeting of the Pahiatua Athletic Society will take place at the secretary’s office at 3 p.m. to morrow (Tuesday) afternoon. The adjourned special meeting takes place to-morrow evening at 8 p.m. at the Commercial Hotel. The proposal to turn the society into a Caledonian Society will be considered.

The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association in another column advertise their next show at Palmerston North for Wednesday and Thursday, the 17th and 1-4th November next. There are £*2oo in four special prizes of £SO each for most points in draughts, Shorthorns, Lincolns, and Komnoys. The total amount of prize money is £IOSO. Schedule of prizes will be forwarded on I application. • We havo received tho first number of The Go vernment Insurant Recorder, published for freo circulation amongst tho agents, officers and friends of the Government Insurance Department. The little journal is just the very thing required to safeguard the interests of tho Government Insurance Department.
