Lord Elgin, Governor-General of India, has seriously remonstrated with the Ameer in connection with the assistance given by the Afghans to the Mohammedans in the recent attack upon the British forces at Shabkadar, especially directing bis attention to the action of Gholam Hyder Khan in countenancing the disaffected mollahs.

Twenty - five thousand Indian troops are being concentrated on the Indian frontier.

Itinerant mollahs, referring to the Turkish successes in the GrecoTurkish war, piedit the millenium in Islamism.

The Ameer of Afghanistan has issued a firman, forbidding Ins subjects to join iu the Jehad alleged to have been advocated in a pamphlet promulgated by the Ameer. It is believed that whatever the Ameer does ho will do secretly in order to avoid open rupture with the British.
