RUNNING AMUCK.

A Feilding Girl makes Things Lively.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Feilding, August 17. A sensation was caused yesterday afternoon by a young woman named Annie Looney and her father, Thos. Looney, who took possession of the town for half an hour. Annie Looney was armed with a revolver and fired six shots, missing every time. She loaded up again. I)r. Charlton moved towards her to disarm her, when she fired and wounded him in the head, but not dangerously. She, with her father, were then arrested and locked up. The man Looney purchased the revolver, and accompanied his daughter around the town looking for men, whom the daughter claimed to have grievances against, intending to shoot them.

The pair were charged this morning with attempt to kill, and were remanded.

Yesterday’s Manawatu Standard says:—The news that Feilding had been the scene of a serious, and what might havo resulted in a fatal shooting affray, created quite a sensation in town this morning, while the excitement was considerably intensified by the absence of any definite particulars and the rumor that Dr Charlton bad succumbed to his wounds. The facts so far as we arc able to ascertain are us follows : Recently a young woman named Annie Looney,at onetime a resident at Palmerston North, laid an information of a serious character against a young man named U. Lillies. The case came on for hearing, but was adjourned until to-day. The excitement of these proceedings evidently preyed on her mind, and yesterday she procured a six-chambered revolver, and proceeded to Manchester streot, where Mr (lillies is employed, fired two shots at random, neither of them doing serious harm. Shu then took aim at Mr ltcade, the well-known solicitor, who was (lillies’ counsel in the case between the parties, but fortunately her mm was again erratic, the bullet passing into the office, in front of which Mr Rcade was standing at the time. The firing of the shots attracted the attention of Dr Charlton, who rushed un to the girl with the intention of securing the revolver and preventing her from doing further harm, hut beforo ho could carry out Ins purpose she fired a fourth shot, which passed through the back of the doctor's neclt, causing him to fall in the road, and loso a great deal of blood. Ihe doctor was taken homo and his wound attended to, but it is not likely to havo vory serious rosults.
