The discussion then went on as to the work offered, severity, distance and low pay being urged against it. The Minister said tnen could get there in a day and a half and earn 7s a day. Ho flatly refused to make any different offer. If they had any grit in them they could make a living at it. A Fatal Mistake. Dunedin, This Day. At the inquest on Hanna Maria Godfrey, wife of a dairyman at Pine Hill, who died suddenly, the evidence showed that deceased had taken a quantity of aconite in place of medicine prescribed for her. A verdict of temporary insanity was returned. A Banking Case. Wellington. This Day. In the Supreme Court W. Lyell sued A. Perratt for £172 8s 2d, calls due on fifty Bank of New Zealand shares, sold by plaintiff to defendant. The directors of the Bank refused to recognise the transfer and Lyell had to pay the calls. The defendant argued the sale was not completed as the shares were not transferred. Judgment for plaintiff. Railway Gas Plants. Wellington, This Day. Gas plants for lighting tho Auckland and Wellington railways will arrive next month. The northern one will beset up in the Auckland station yard and the southern one either here, Wanganui, Palmerston or Woodville. It will be three months before they are ready. Ministers' Movements. Wellington, This Day. Mr Carroll goes to Gisborne tomorrow, Messrs Walker and MacKenzie to Dunedid to-day.
