Perhaps the most beneficent measure ever placed on the Statute Book of this Colony is the Land Transfer Act, 1885. Unfortunately the benefits conferred by this Act arc known to few. Under the old system of conveyance by deed enormous expense in land dealings could hardly be avoided. Under the Act of 1885 the necessity for this no longer exists, and a lease, mortgage or transfer may now be /•fleeted for a merely nominal sum.
