Per Press Association. Fire at Dunedin. Dunedin, Thia Day. Hitchcock * furniture warehouse was gutted by a fire which originated near where a plumber had been working. The stock was insured for .£IOOO in the Victoria otlioe. The firm estimate their loss at £6OO above that. Found Drowned. Wellington, This Day. An elderly man named Robert Martin, a school teacher, was found drowned in the vicinity of Jervis Quay yesterday. At seven o’clock on Saturday night deceased left home for the purpose of looking at the shops. It is not known how he came to be in the water, and his friends state they have no suspicion of suicide. The Mails. Wellington, This Day. The Monowai with the English mail of 6th October left ’Frisco for Auckland on 18th October, contract date. The Alameda with colonial mails of 6th October reached ’Frisco from Auckland on 26th October, one day late. Gold Discovery atGreymouth. Grkymouth, This Day. A very important gold reef has been discovered at I.angdon’s, nine miles from Grey mouth. The reef, which was unearthed at a lower level than was ever tested before, is three feet thick throughout. A rush has set in and leases are being taken up in all directions. Ministers’ Movements. Wellington, This Day. The Premier and the Hon. J. Carroll leave for Pahiatua this afternoon to take part in the opening ceremony in connection with the new bridge over the Tiraumea river between Pahiatua and Makuri. Mr McKenzie will probably leave for the south by this afternoon's steamer.
