sented the attack that had been made in connection with this matter, and defended the purchase as being in the best interests of the colony. Sir Robert Stout dissented from the report in many respects, but agreed there was no foundation for the charges of corruption made by implication and inuendo against the Minister of Lands and his Department in connection with the purchase. Several other members also spoke, the debate being adjourned at midnight until Monday at 11.30 a.m.

Legislative Council.

The Council met at 11 a.m. On formal business having been disposed of Sir Patrick Buckley moved that the Council adjourn until 2.30 p.m. as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Hon. Patrick Dignan. He spoke feelingly of the uprightness of character and sterling worth of the deceased gentleman, as also did Messrs Whitmore, Stewart, Swanson, Jennings, and Bolt. The Council then adjourned.
