Perhaps the most beneficent measure ever placed on the Statute Book of this Colony is the Land Transfer Act, 1885. Unfortunately the benefits conferred by this Act nre known to few. Under the old system of conveyance by deed enormous expense iu land dealings could hardly be avoided. Under the Act of 1885 the necessity for this no longer exists, and a lease, mortgage or transfer may now be affected for a merely nominal sum. To all' >rd residents in this district the benefits of the Act we have taken out a license, of which the following is a copy :

IN pursuance of the powers for this purpose rested in me under the Land Transfer Act, 1885, T hereby, with the sanction of his Excellency the Governor, license Reginald I*. Greville, of Pahiatua, to be a landbrokor for transacting business under the provisions of the said Act, until the Jilst December, 1894. Dated at Wellington this 30th day of March, 1894. L.S.
