The steamer Islam, seized at Glasgow by the authority of the Foreign Office, as it was supposed she lys* a Japanese warship, has been released, the Japanese Government guaranteeing her neutrality. Shanghai, August 29. It is reported that the Chinese troops, aided by 5000 Coreans. have driven the Japanese with heavy loss from Raising, and that they continue to advance. Other rumours state that the Japanese •re landing forces north of Taku, and preparations are being made to march on IV* M Two thousand .Japanese have been landed at Yalu 1 fiver with the objeot of cutting off the Chinese communications. Received ? a.m. Vienna, August 30. The Japanese Government has purchased two hundred thousand needle gunn here. Received 11.5 a.in. Shanghai, August 30. Le Hung Chang has condemned several officer* and soldiers to be beheaded fer the murder of the Bev. Wyllie. The Mission, ary bouse is to he rebuilt and » special lax levied ob the locality for the benefit of Wyllie’s family.
