The monthly meeting of the Board of L lucation was held on Taeeday morning. Mr J. K. Blair was unable, through tll- ‘ nets, to be present, and the cha r wae j filled by Mr F. H. Preset. The other members present w*re the Rev J. Patterson. Messrs W. A. Fit. Herbert, W\ W. Mei ardle. J. \oung, F. Rmdev, and W. C. Buchanan. M.H.R. Leave of absence for the meeting was granted to the Chairman and Dr New { man. C onsideration of Mr Young s motion that :he Chairman should he elected an nually. was deferred till next meeting, j owing to the absence of Mr Blair and lhr Newman. Mr Young moved that the Pupil Teachers' Committee should be reconstructed. allowed to remain at Pahiatua. Assistant Inspector t'lemmk' said that all he spuld ■•T in Miss Hesse’s favour was that she was exceedingly kind to the children. It was found that the motion could not be put without notice, and Mr Young gave notice that he would move in the matter at tfext meeting. application was made by the Mangataintoka Committee for permission to divide the midwinter vocation—half now and half in October, so as to enable the teachers, to come to Wellington for the Musical Festival. The application was granted. Authority was given for the sale of timber on the ground, and £3 was voted for levelling ground for shelter sheds. Application was made for a grant in aid ofthe schoolroom at Ngaturi. The settlers have hitherto provided their own school, which they now state it entirely unsuita ble to the requirements of the district. Tiiey asked the board to make a grant of £37, offering to raise the rest of the money required themselves. The request was acceded to.
The following appointment of pupil teacher was made, subject to approval of the Committee :—Pahiatua, Master Phillips. Mr Worboys was promoted from the head teachership at Mauricevile Fast to the charge of the Pahiatua School. The question of appointing an assistant mistress at Pahiatua was deterred. —Post.
