NEWS BY TELEGRAPH (Per Press Association.) A Plucky Syndicate. New Plymouth, This Day. The whole of the New Zealand Petroleum and Iron Syndicate’s property in Taranaki changed hands today, the purchaser being a local syndicate formed for the purpose of preventing the dismemberment of valuable property, and also with a view to resuming boring at an early date. Prohibition in the King Country. Wellington, This day. A proclamation has been published in the Gazette, oxciuding the Tokaanu Hotel from the area affected by the Governor’s proclamation, prohibiting lioenses in the King Country. Tokaanu was inadvertently included in the first instance. Found Drowned. New Plymouth, This Day. A man was found drowned this morning in the ornamental water in the Recreation Ground. Later. The man found drowned ha? been identified as Charles Francis, who had been missing from Manaia since April tiOth. The body had been in the water 301110 days and was much decomposed. Francis was always considered out of his mind.
Gone to Gaol. Christchurch, May 10. At tho Police Court a man named William Cresswell, alias Gleeson, who had been going about trying to sell blue serge shoddy, was sent to goal for six months on the charge of having insufficient means of support. David McCauliff, a recent arrival from Australia, who bad lately been singing at popular concerts, was brought up on a charge of vagrancy and ordered to leave the town at once.
